Imported vs Made In Scotland

We sell a huge range of products, some of which are made in Scotland and some of which are imported. It may come as a surprise to many people that not all sporrans are made in Scotland, but they have been produced overseas for many years.

Why Are Traditional Scottish Products Made Abroad?

During the days of the British Empire, many soldiers from Scottish regiments stationed abroad wore kilts and naturally the manufacturing of their uniforms travelled with them to the far corners of the globe. The sporran manufacturer we work with in Pakistan has been making traditional Scottish goods for nearly 100 years.

Is It OK To Sell Imported Products?

Today, there is some debate over the legitimacy of importing items of Scottish Highland dress, and both sides of the debate have strong arguments supporting their cause.

We take a somewhat neutral stance on the issue and aim to offer a large range of products, to suit different styles and budgets. Often, this includes products which are not made in Scotland. However, many imported products offer competitive qualities which cannot be replicated in Scotland, most commonly - price.

Does Imported Mean Poor Quality?

No! In general imported products are likely to be lower quality than their alternatives which are made locally, but they are also likely to be cheaper. We leave the decision on which one is best for you...to you!

We go to great lengths to ensure that the imported products that we offer are great value. This means that we do not sell products just because they are cheap, but because they are great products for the price. We are very aware that not everyone who wants to wear a kilt can afford to have one custom made, and feel that it's sensible to offer a pre-made, imported alternative so that the benefits and joy of wearing a kilt can be enjoyed by everyone.
