Sgian Dubhs

The sgian dubh is worn inside the kilt hose, half concealed, and this may be partly influenced by the translation from Gaelic of dubh, which means black, but also dark or hidden.  A sgian, or knife, would have been used daily and always carried, but nowadays a sgian dubh is likely only to be used to ceremonially cut haggis.

We offer over one hundred designs, so you will find just the right one to complement any kilt outfit.

It’s important and reassuring for you to know that all our sgian dubhs (or skean dhu, skeen dhoo or scian dubh) comply with the Licensing of Knife Dealers Act 1 June 2010.
